TYPES OF MASSAGE
SWEDISH MASSAGE:
Swedish massage
is bodywork specifically designed to relax muscles. It combines the application of deep
pressure to muscles and bones, by rubbing concurrently with the circulation
towards the heart. Swedish Massage
actively heightens oxygen flow in the blood to better help rid the muscles of
toxins. This flowing, gentle style
promotes overall relaxation, increases circulation and range of motion, and
reduces muscular tension.
DEEP TISSUE AND SPORTS MASSAGE:
Combines multiple massage techniques that may improve sports
performance and recuperation from injury and stress. Massage is an effective component of any sports or muscle
training program.
Deep tissue massage aims at the deeper tissue structures of
the muscle and fascia (the connective tissue). Deep tissue uses similar
movements and techniques as Swedish massage, but generally with more intense
pressure. Deep tissue is a more
focused type of massage. The therapist’s
goal is to release chronic muscle tension or knots (known as
"adhesions") and fibrous
adhesions (scar tissue), that would normally result in increased restriction of
movement, blood flow, lymphatic flow, venous flow and nerve conduction. Deep tissue massage helps to relieve
these symptoms. Reflexology is the physical act of applying pressure to the
feet and hand with specific thumb, finger and hand techniques.
